Written by Tom Key, this “Greatest Story Ever Retold” based on the book “The Cotton Patch Version of Matthew and John” by Clarence Jordan, sets the Gospel account in rural Georgia accompanied by lively country and bluegrass music by Harry Chapin, the popular composer’s final – and perhaps best – work. As this gospel musical begins, the pulsing rhythms of “Somethin’s Brewin’ in Gainesville” leads the audience to follow Jesus and his disciples to the final showdown in Atlanta, where Herod is mayor. Inevitably, Jesus is lynched by local thugs, but that’s not the end of the story. Loved and hailed by critics, religious commentators and just plain folks in the audience, "Cotton Patch Gospel" will lift you up and give you hope. (Presented by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing Co.)
